About
Recorded evidence of India's underground music community
Pushit TV is an effort to document, celebrate and narrativise the underground, alternative and independent music/music adjacent art scene in India. In the absence of any serious effort to chronicle this movement, many artistic endeavours have been lost over the years to the sea of time. What remains of a once vibrant live music scene, are mostly low quality phone video clips and a handful of semi-decent recordings, scattered all across the internet, accessible only to those who know exactly what they are looking for. Additionally, the non-existence of a collective narrative has been an impediment to this movement gaining any meaningful momentum outside its dedicated listener base, which has in turn resulted in many artistic careers and projects being abandoned. It’s a shame that we have lost meaningful art that should have been preserved and celebrated.
With this project, we hope that we can rectify this mistake moving forward, and hopefully also dig into the past to bring all of what was lost under one roof where these efforts can gain a collective identity.
Our ultimate goal is that this endeavour, in some way shape or form, creates enough of a stir out there in the real world, that more people start to attend live gigs and support local bands; not just because it’s the cool thing to do, but because there was enough awareness created for there to be a deeper appreciation and connection to the music on a larger scale.
Pushit is a community effort managed and curated by Joshua Quadros and Angad Patil.
